Ace Hotel Kyoto
Karasuma, Kyoto, Japan
Karasuma, Kyoto, Japan
Haven’t stayed yet — going in October. But I’ve been to four Aces and the photos of this one (Kengo Kuma + Commune Design, traditional machiya bones) are the most committed-to-the-bit of any Ace I’ve seen. Saving for the trip; will report back.
Kengo Kuma renovation of a 1920s telephone-company building. Real architectural intent.
Karasuma location: ten minutes’ walk to Nishiki Market, twenty to Kyoto Station.
The lobby coffee bar (Stumptown) is one of the best in the city.
